CQC Registration

On the 1st October the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and its associated regulation came into effect. These regulations mean that the requirements for both the types of provider and the types of services being provided.

 

The Care Quality Commission is a government “guango” which is responsible for overseeing the registration and running of health and social care in England (and also to administer the legal functions of the former Mental Health Commission).

  

The law states that healthcare professional providing services which fall into one or more of the classes of “regulated activities” must be registered under the new regulations.

 

Anyone providing a private doctor service or operating and establishment which is classed and an acute hospital are required to register, as are other classifications of health providers (including hair transplant clinics and IVF units).

 

From the 1st April 2011 ALL dental practices in England must also be registered with the Care Quality Commission. The pre registration enrolment began in early October 2010 and the application process will begin in November ready for compulsory registration by the 1st Apirl.

 

It is an offence to fail to comply punishable by (a maximum of) a £50,000.00 fine on conviction.

 

In order to obtain registration you must provide an application pack, have appropriate policies and procedures in place to meet the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety.
